Jesus, is that a philosophical title for an article or what?! And although I will be getting slightly philosophical with this, I’ll try to keep my writing in check; no one has time for me and my uncontrolled ramblings!
But seriously – what the hell is Art?
Because of the “Art” classes I had in school, I used to consider it as nothing more than painting, molding and drawing. Something I felt had zero place in my life!
Not because I was bad at it, which I was, but because I just didn’t enjoy it, which I didn’t. The best part of the class for me was picking the dried PVA glue off the bottle. Now THAT was a fun way to spend a few minutes!
I never really thought too much about it though – I just knew that art wasn’t for me and I was happy accepting that fact!
Now, some 9 years (Jesus Christ) after I’ve finished school, I’ve come to realise that art isn’t just painting and drawing; It’s about expressing ones creativity to entertain and inspire those who consume it!
Yeah, this could be done through the medium of painting, sculpting or drawing, but it doesn’t have to be. It could be a piece of music or a movie. It could be something as complex as a novel or as simple as a YouTube video. Shit, it could even be a 5 minute interaction between two strangers who bring their true and honest selves to the conversation.
And given this definition of “Art”, I’d be very, very sad if I ended up being shit at it for the rest of my life.
My own creativity is something I am constantly working on. I’m always striving to become a better writer, friend and coach! My dreams all revolve around my ability to create my own art and inspire those I interact with!
- I want to be a New York Times best-selling author.
- I want to be a world-class S+C coach.
- I want to be a supportive friend and family member.
All of these goals are based around my ability to be creative and become an “artist” in my own individual way. Something that I’ve got to practice day after day if I want my dreams to become reality.
Our internal creativity is something that I believe shapes us from the inside out. It’s formed by our passions, thoughts and opinions. It is something that will change as we age and as we go about experiencing life. It is, in essence, our personality – something that cannot be “improved” per-say.
Our ability to be creative on the other-hand is something that needs to be constantly worked on if we want to have a real impact! It is something that gives us the power to express our opinions in meaningful and inspirational ways.
So, let me ask you this – Do you want to make a difference in this world?
Then you gotta’ get creative! You’ve got to become an Artist!
