We all know that I’m a big YouTube fan; I couldn’t belive more strongly that the next 5 years will bring a lot of change in how we consume video’s and entertainment. Internet sensations are becoming more mainstream everyday, gaining more power with every new follower.
And an example of this power is clear to see from the recently social media trend dubbed #LoveArmyForSomalia
If you’ve not yet heard about it, you’re in for a treat…
It all started off with this video tweet from Jérôme Jarre in which he asks Turkish Airlines, the only airliner to fly to Somalia, if they could be of any help delivering foodstuffs to help with the current famine that’s killing thousands of people.
The video quickly gained a lot of traction. A few hours later it was confirmed that Turkish Airlines have given them 60 tons of air freight transport to Somalia at the end of the month, with another 140 tons available over the next six months.
This is fucking huge.
Jérôme, “just some guy” who makes videos for a living, has started something that is taking the world by storm and can help thousands of families who need that help most. And while I bitch about social media a lot and wonder what good it’s doing the people of the world, things like this are incredibly refreshing to see.
The only issue now is finding that 60 tons worth of food, and that’s where donations are going to help.
They’ve set up a GoFundMe page which you can check out here, so why not join the #LoveArmyForSomalia and share it with your friends. Better yet, make a donation if you can, because every little bit really does help.
